In the 2018 calendar, features Veterans from Soldiers Best Friend in Arizona, K9 Navigator Assistance Dogs in the Washington, DC area and Paws and Stripes in Albuquerque, N.M. We hope their stories help you better understand what our Veterans are experiencing and help raise awareness of the value of service dogs in healing the invisible wounds of war. One of every five returning soldiers is dealing with the debilitating symptoms of PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) and TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury).
This year’s cover dog Esuda, is the service dog of Army Veteran Mike. His story is an amazing one that is documented in A&E’s series Dogs of War. When you watch this link you will be introduced first to Jim Stanek, the inspiration of Paws and Stripes, who along with Lindsey Stanek founded this incredible organization. Watch as they follow Mike and Esuda’s story from his first interview with Paws and Stripes, through the process of dog selection and training. This will give you a special insight to what a thorough organization does to make sure the dog and Veteran are matched properly and start out on the right foot.
We were so honored to have met each one of the participating Veteran and service dog teams and after reading their stories I know you will share that same sense of pride we did. You will also be amazed to learn about the intuitive gifts that dogs have and how these four-legged miracles are changing and saving lives.
